Photokrete is a spin-off from the Design and Engineering of Construction and Architecture research group, building on the results of the European H2020 MIRACLE project (2021–2025), which developed an innovative type of concrete capable of reflecting solar radiation at a wavelength that can penetrate the atmosphere. In this way, the material helps reduce urban heat island effects and lowers the cooling requirements of buildings. The technology is protected by a patent, which has been exclusively licensed to the Spain-based startup Photokrete.
